The Cousins Are Here! The Cousins Are Here!

I guess you might have figured out that my sister and her family came to visit us on their spring break.  It has been so much fun.  The Bugs are in rare form and are so supper excited to see friendly faces.  We are a little packed in but enjoying every minute of it.  I don't know how the downstairs neighbor feels about things but I hope okay.

Today, I went with the Sensibaugh's downtown while the Bugs were at school.  Tomorrow we are skipping school and heading to the beach.  I know, I am no longer in the running for Mother of the Year. But what the hell, you only live once!

We have had dance contests and shows, a little ruff housing, eating and even a little walking.  We will see what we have in store in the next couple of days. I think we have some Skyping with Nana, Tybee Lighthouse and maybe a ghost tour, we will just have to see.

Is There Really That Much Green?

I would have to say YES!  St. Patrick's Day is a big thing around Savannah so Garrett took the day off and we went downtown to see what it was all about.  I would have to say it was a bit extreme.  We stayed on the family friendly streets.  I guess that some of the streets closer to the river get a little like Bourbon Street.  And Garrett and I do sometimes try to set a good example.  I know.  Don't laugh too hard.

The bugs resting their tired feet.

One of the fun things we did the day before was get a green shirt for Garrett.  We also got him a hat but Bug wore it most of the time and we even found green daddy panties.  They were on clearence so we HAD to get them.  However, Bug made me hide them under the shirt while we finished the shopping at Walmart.

Relax, I didn't take any pictures on Garrett in the panties.

We had a really good time.  It was fun to see so many people and how they do things.  There were so many floats and bands from all over not just Georgia.  I loved the Clydesdales and the KaZoo band.  Ahh! a KaZoo band.

Garrett favorite thing was the pure genius of the college aged people in the crowd.

Garrett came home and took a very long nap.  The bugs both took showers and then went Ms. Victoria's family to the club house for a little get together.  I did dishes and laundry.  When the bugs got home, we put them to bed and Garrett had to show off his panties by mooning the bugs.  I just laughed.  Yes,  I know that my children will end up in theorpy but at least they will have a real reason.

Science Projects and OCD...

Little Bug had to do a Science Project on a constellation and tell all about it.  We had to do research to find the answers to the questions and learn where the stars are located.  So I decided to break it into steps and let her play between the steps.  We have a difficult time with sitting still.

Google.  So I put Little Bug in front of the computer and she was the "Bus Driver" (good thing I took my meds).  We found websites on the constellation she pick and I taught her to take notes. She copied down the things she thought were important word for word.  (We have some work on paraphrasing but she is only in second grade so I let it slide).

Play Break.

Then she sat down and started typing her report.  However, she was coping her notes word for word. So we had to have a little talk about plagiarism.  I told her about how if you copy something someone else wrote it is against the law and considered stealing. "Mom, but if I like the color red and I tell my friend 'My favorite color is red.' and then you tell your friend 'My favorite color is red.' that is not wrong." So I then had to go into research and why it was wrong when you are doing research.

Well Needed Play Break

Back to work.  She started to copy her notes word for word again.  "Little Bug, you can't do that.  It is stealing and you could go to jail."

"Mom, I can't go to jail.  I am too young." Okay then.  She started typing and the words were underlined with red squiggle lines.  Little Bug could not handle it.  We had to correct things as we went along.  NO SQUIGGLES. Red or green.

Play Break

We finally got through it and it turned out great!  I did not even do anything but help with the title.  I let go.  It was hard, but I let go. It was not perfect, but it was Little Bug's and she was happy with it so I am too. Mrs. W gave her a 99%.  She put "none" instead of "known".  I guess I should have helped with proofreading.  Okay, let's be honest, like I would have caught any misspellings or wrong word usage.  That is why we have Dad and Nana.

Cupcakes Save the Day...

So one of the reasons that I haven't been blogging is because I was upset and I was not ready to talk about it, until now.  You see, I have never had the cops called on me until now...

A couple of Fridays ago we were home and Garrett and the Bugs were playing Wii and we heard a big bang, bang, bang coming from downstairs.  Garrett and I just looked at each other and the they continued on playing.  We weren't being very loud so we figured that the neighbor was putting together something or hanging a picture.  No biggie.  Then about 30 minutes later the same bang, bang, bang came from down stairs again. Nothing happened so we just continued playing.  Then we decided to go out to dinner.

When we came back a cop was at the neighbor's talking to her and since the boyfriend/husband is no longer around, we thought it had something to do with that.  I then sent the girls in the house and the cop walked over to Garrett and I and told us that there had been some noise complaints about us being too loud.  He said that we were not in trouble because it was before 10 pm when the city wide noise ordinance comes into effect.  He continued to talk to Garrett but I decided to go inside because I was embarrassed and upset.

What do I start to do... BAKE.  Yes, I baked cupcakes and decided that I would give them to the neighbor and no, Bridget, I did not poison them even though I thought of it.  The next day the girls and I go down and talk to the neighbor and say we are sorry.  We chit chatted a bit and found out that she was almost 3 month pregnant and has been very sick.  She has to have her gallbladder and tonsils out in the next couple of weeks. We talked about children and how Little Bug doesn't know how to walk, just run and jump.  We talked about how the garbage disposal rocks the whole apartment and we can't do anything about it.  We talked about boyfriends.  We introduced ourselves and now say hello to each other.  I hope everything continues to work out.  So far, so good.

But, if you see me on an episode of cops, I'm the one in the tank top with no bra on but I do have most of my teeth.

How Time Flies...

I can't believe how long it has been since I blogged.
I can't believe that we have been in Georgia over 2 1/2 months.
I can't believe it is the Ides of March.
I can't believe that how busy we are starting to get.

We have a really busy week this week.  The girls got out of school early today and tomorrow and no school on Thursday and Friday because of St. Patrick's Day.  Soccer starts tonight. Eye Doctor for Little Bug (always an adventure). Meeting with a possible new piano teacher tomorrow and thinking about heading in to Savannah for the parade on Thursday.

Bug rode the bus home from school today.  I can't wait to find out how it went.  I had Little Bug's Parent Teacher Conference and I wanted to make sure that Bug had a safe way home just in case things ran over.  You never know.  Little Bug had a glowing report from Mrs. W and even made the Honor Roll.  I am so proud.

Bug also made the Honor Roll and was even invited to the BRAG party by her teachers because of her wonderful attitude and good grades.  I can't tell you how proud of Bug.  I can't even imagine how hard it was starting middle school in a new state.

I have two awesome Bugs!

Favorite Time of the Day...

I really love when 2:00 rolls around because that is when I get to go and pick up Little Bug.  You line up and sometimes I even get to park on the highway.  Then they call your child to meet you at a number on the sidewalk. The teacher opens the door and Little Bug climbs in.

Then just Little Bug and I talk about the day.  I get to hear about all kinds of things like what Stanley did today, that we got a 100% on our spelling test and this week I even learned about why they have controlled burns to help nature and to make it easier for the animals to make it through the forest.  We don't know what animals are in the forest but it is to help them.  Somedays we run errands.  Thursday is Donut Day where we go and visit Kelly at the Donut Shop.  Then off to get Bug.

Sometimes we are early and get to sit in the parking lot and read or do homework. Bug comes out at 3:35 and we start over with how her day was.  It normally starts with a story about Mr. McCorkhill the science teacher who reminds me of what Uncle Jamie must be like as a teacher.  He tells funny stories that even involve poop.  We find out if Cody has been picking (Little Bug and I call it flirting) on Bug.

I really love my time in the car with them.  It is defiantly my favorite part of the day.

Kickin' Ass...

I had the best work out today.  I was able to use the elliptical for 45 min. and then still make it through my Pilate's class. My abs are going to hurt tomorrow but I was just glad to only have two poses that I had trouble with.  Just got to keep working at it.

Frustration!

I get that I am no Einstein but I do have a college degree and would consider myself an educated individual (except for spelling) but not according to my children.  I must have "I am stupid" tattooed on my forehead and did not know it.

This week the homework department has been a bit challenging.  Bug discovered that she missed the section on Geometry of the circle last semester and I am helping her get caught up that is if I knew anything.  I guess she believes that I can't read or teach her the information.  We finally got things worked out tonight but it has been difficult trying to communicate with her.  I teach differently then she learns and yes, I do find myself taking over and just doing the problem which doesn't help.  I know we can work through it.

Little Bug, that is a whole 'nother ballgame.  She not only thinks I don't know what I am doing, She believes it is not worth doing.  She did not do so hot on her math review so we went over the worksheet to correct it.  She could not grasp that she needed to learn the information. "I already missed it so why worry about it." Then we discussed that there would be a test over the same info and she explained "Fine, I will just miss it again!" This is not from my side.  I promise.

This is going to be fun!

'Til the next adventure if I survive.
